Is it stealing if you go to a free conference of someone really famous?
and there are 2 binders on a table for people to check but see someone take it and then you take one. But then think maybe they are just for view. Do they normally let you take them or if you do they can call it stealing and you can go to jail or be fined for taking it?

- If there were only 2 there, then maybe it was stealing. After all, I would think they would have had more than just 2 if they wanted everyone to have one......
- Whenever I go to a conference, there are always materials provided. If the binders weren't for the attendees, there probably would have been something on the binder stating that it was for display purposes only. If you weren't supposed to take it, my guess is that they'll just want the binder back. It sounds like you weren't sure whether it was for you are not. It's not like you took it knowing that you shouldn't. If you're uneasy about having it, look for a contact number for the conference organizers and call them and ask about it.
- Yes, if you are not told it is free to take, don't.
