Should I go home from work or stay, will it harm my baby?
My boss painted his conference table with a wood finesher. The smell is all over the office. Smells like fume that you get from paint. I really don't want to risk anything. Will it harm my baby? Should I just go home and tell them that the smell could be harmful to my child? I have been here for one hour and half and debating whether it's bad or not.

- I would call your drs office. A few months ago the office building next door to mine had a fire...i called my dr and asked if it was safe and they told me no and that they would fax over a note to my boss so i could go home for the day, drs. orders. Its better to be safe than sorry.
- If it were me, i would leave. It's not worth the risk. Congratulations : )
- I would go home. The strong fumes can harm your child. It may not, but I wouldn't think it's worth the risk. I know you cannot paint while you are pregnant because of the fumes.
- Take a break (outside) and call your doctor. See what he recommends you do. That way, you could even get a doctors note that you had to leave (under doctor's care... under doctors orders). Good luck!
- I would leave, they say it's not good to breathe those fumes. That having been said, I wouldn't tell them that it's because you're concerned about the baby...they'll think you're nuts (even though they're wrong.) I would say, that smell is making me sick and I have to go. And there you go, you and baby are both safe!
- i think you should stay away from such smells especially if the paint used was not environmentally friendly which i doubt it was since you say it smells like fumes, remember you are not breathing just for yourself, if cigarette smoke is a no no what more paint fumes... go home, the rest will do you good anyway.
- No, do not go to work and yes it could harm your baby. You have a great reason to stay home and not go and if anyone says anything different, hire a lawyer! In fact, I would not go in for a few days if I were you.
- I would definitely leave especially if it's bothering you. It could make you sick and harm your baby. To be sure, call the doctor's office.
- open a window to get rid of some of the fumes if you can cause thats not healthy no matter if your pregnant or not. then call your dr and see what he reccomends. im willing to bet he will ask them to send you home because that stuff makes anyone dizzy, and i cant imagine what it would do to an unborn baby if you were around it long enough
- Call your doctor, that way you can get a doctors note faxed over and they can't say anything to you. Doctors orders!
- first congratulations!!! it's so simple just once ask yourself what is more importent either work or your baby!!!!
- I would call my doctor and tell them they will probably fax a note. Its good to have that note as a back up because in this day and age you cant go home just cause your pregnant its a shame but some people have no sympathy. But who knows maybe your boss might have some anyway, but like I said get a note and just in case he wants to keep it make a copy. Never can be to safe these days.
