Round Conference Tables

What branch of Christianity uses terms like "Home meetings", "The Lords Table", and "Meeting hall"?

There is this Christian group, at George Mason University called, "Christians on Campus". They typically have these things called "Home Meetings" nights out of the week. On Sunday, they typically call it the "Lords day". Normally, I would say "I am going to church." However, they usually say, "I'm going to the meeting this morning" or "The Lord's table". A big key thing I noticed is that they say "Amen" a lot. For example, they say "Amen" after every line of someone praying (i.e. "Lord thank you for this day, Amen!. Lord, thank you that we can experience you, Amen"). The Amen part is usually said by the others they are praying with. When the say Amen, it usually is in a way that sounds "dronish". Also, they place strict time on the speaking. They usually ask people to share what they enjoyed and give them, lets say, a minute to speak. After a minute, someone will signal them (striking a key on the piano, etc). One last point, they don't have pastors, bishops, ministers, etc... they have speakers and they are never the same for a particular day. They always rotate. There is no specific person granted the role of pastor, bishop, etc. Can someone, based on this information, tell me what type of Christianity this is?

  1. I'm lost myself ... My church don't use words like that..We use amen and so on...
  2. Sounds like it's just a unique church. The amount of speaking time and the word "meeting hall" doesn't make it a separate branch of christianity, it's just the way that group functions.
  3. i think mormons have stuff like this. ohh ohh and the jehova's witnesses. man those guys are annoying! unless they are a cult just being formed, i havent heard of a religion without a priest. even opus dei has authority. hmmh a good question.
  4. Sounds like a Cult to me....
  5. It sounds like Jehovah's Witnesses, but you said they call themselves Christians?
  6. Without looking at anyone else's answers, I will say that it sounds like the Quakers to me.
